Image of the house Little Barton Farmhouse is a large Victorian family house with most of its original features. Set in an area of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty', it is surrounded by pasture and unspoilt landscape with magnificent views of the Bristol Channel and Lundy Island on one side and the Atlantic on the other.
ACCOMMODATION
The house, run on broadly organic/ecological principles, sleeps up to 10 people comfortably. It has big, light, airy rooms with natural wooden and terracotta flooring, and is set in a large, lawned garden with sea views and a south facing patio. There are five bedrooms and two bathrooms. Both the sitting room and the living room are south facing. One has a wood burner, the other an open fire. The simple farmhouse kitchen has old fashioned wooden units, a large round table, adjustable oil fired Rayburn for cooking and heating, an electric hob and all the usual appliances as well as a large walk in pantry with ample storage space and a utility room. Little Barton is a no smoking house with ecological cleaning materials/washing liquid provided. Children are welcome. There is a cot and a high chair as well as a selection of books and games.
THE AREA
Little Barton is set in a walker's paradise with the cliff path a few minutes away as well as a network of inland paths. The lane leading to the house is full of wildflowers and the surroundings support a wide variety of wildlife. The local beaches are unspoilt, surrounded by cliffs they are rocky at high tide, with sand at low tide. Speke's Mill Mouth, within walking distance, is excellent for swimming, body boarding and surfing. Hartland is a thriving community with many potters and craftsmen and artists, with organic food available locally (3 miles by road, 2 by footpath) www.hartlandforum.co.uk
ACTIVITIES
Various courses in practical rural skills, personal growth and arts and crafts are available in the area, as well as surfing, climbing, sailing, canoeing courses for adults and children, slightly further afield. (www.bigbluesurfschool.co.uk) as well as mountain boarding at the South West Mountainboard Centre (www.sw-mbc.co.uk) There is also a boat which can be hired for trips to Lundy Island. (www.clovelly.charters.ukf.net) There are two interesting gardens open to the public within easy walking distance; Hartlandabbey.com and Doctonmill, with Clovelly only a few minutes away.
THE HOUSE IS AVAILABLE ALL YEAR ROUND
The views can be particularly spectacular during the relatively mild winter.
