Cream Teas
There are some brilliant cream tea spots within walking distance from us:
Docton Mill Tea Rooms, is a fifteen minute walk down the hill from us and is situated in a beautiful garden which you can pay to explore (if you're just using the tearoom you don't have to pay - just walk down through the gardens from the carpark towards the mill at the bottom).
Hartland Point Refreshments is a shack at Hartland Point, right on the coast path at the tip of the peninsula, next to the light house. It has an incredible view!
The Old Bakery Cafe, is bang in the middle of Hartland and has tables outside on the square. You can walk to it through the woods from Little Barton.
Pubs
There are heaps of pubs in and around Hartland - here are some of our favourites:
The Wrecker's Retreat, Hartland Quay, is right on the cliff next to what used to be an old harbour. You can sit and watch the sun set while you enjoy a pint - jump into the sea for a dip and in winter there is a pool table. It's within easy walking distance of Little Barton (approx 40 mins walk on the coast path or 5 mins by car).
The Kings Arms, Hartland, a good local, has band nights, a wood-burner, beer garden and an amazingly large selection of gins (approx 40 mins walk through the woods or 7 mins by car).
The Anchor Inn, Hartland, another good local, again has band nights, a wood-burner, big balcony you can sit out on at the back and does a good roast! (approx 40 mins walk through the woods or 7 mins by car).
The Old Smithy Inn, Welcombe. A old thatched pub with a good atmosphere and fires in the winter. It's just inland from Welcombe beach and has a nice beer garden with views over farmland to the sea. (15 mins by car)
The Red Lion, Clovelly, is on the quay right down by the ancient harbour.
Restaurants
Pattard Restaurant, Hartland. Local quality ingredients take centre stage in Pattard's modern approach to British and French classical fine dining cuisine
Potters, Bude. Potters showcase fresh, seasonal and carefully sourced local produce. Menus change weekly, if not daily, and dishes are simple but delicious along the lines of 'Cornish tapas'.
Temple, Bude. Lively restaurant which serves a two-course set menu changing daily depending on the days catch or the local harvest.
