WALKING AND CYCLING
Hartland Peninsula is a spectacularly beautiful and a highly varied area for walking: wooded walks along the valleys and the North Coast, rugged and wild Atlantic seaboard to the West. The South West Coast path circles around the edge of the entire peninsula. From Little Barton it's about a 10 min to join the South West Coast Path from which you can either do some serious hiking or take a gentle walk to the beach. There are also some lovely inland walks to pubs and tearooms and you can walk to our nearest village, Hartland, , through the woods (40 mins).
For cycling The Tarka Trail provides a long, scenic and safe cycle route, running from Barnstaple to Torrington. It is largely flat and runs along what was the old railway tracks of North Devon. Bikes can be hired from Bike Trail, Fremington, which is owned by Simon who lives in Hartland so he can deliver bikes to the door for a nominal price if required or you can pick them up at the shop. The small, single lane roads that lead from Little Barton to the beaches and Hartland are lovely for cycling too, but beware it is quite hilly!
